Android 12 Beta 2 Released for Google Pixel Devices

Visually completely renewed Android 12 Beta 2 is rolling out to Pixel smartphones today, after the operating system became more widely available last month. This is the first of two Beta-quality incremental releases as the next version of Android nears general availability.

Developers have been instructed to continue compatibility testing and begin early testing targeting Android 12 while following feedback from Android Beta folks. At its I / O event in April, Google said that Beta 2 will introduce many of Android 12’s core privacy features, starting with a panel in Settings that provides a 24-hour timeline of which apps are accessing the mic, camera or location.

Users can also request details on why an application accesses sensitive data, and developers can provide this information in an activity with a new system intent, ACTION_VIEW_PERMISSION_USAGE_FOR_PERIOD. We recommend that applications take advantage of this intent to proactively help users understand accesses within a specified period of time.

Android 12 also displays a message at the bottom of the screen (now shows the source via an app icon) every time an app accesses / reads the clipboard, except if the clipboard is copied from the app itself.

Meanwhile, the microphone and camera indicators will appear in the upper right corner of the screen when apps access these two sensors. New Quick Settings switches allow you to quickly disable the app’s access to the microphone and / or camera.

Beta 2 also shows that Google continues to improve Quick Settings. A new “Internet” menu will show you the active connections available. In the case of Wi-Fi, it is the standard icon and name of the network. Tapping it opens an Internet Panel where you can quickly disconnect, view other Wi-Fi connections, and turn your mobile network on or off.

Elsewhere in the Quick Settings there is a new “GPay” tile with a small image preview to replace “Cards and Switches”, while the Power menu and the account switch are present on the bottom line along with the capacity edit QS and Configuration.
